AWIN (Alice Wimpfheimer International Nutrition) was founded in 2022 to promote and carry on the international collaborative work of Alice A. Wimpfheimer.
Per the bylaws, the Board of Directors must have at least five members who agree to adhere to good practice principles including Section 501c(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code and the State of Washington Articles of Incorporation as a Nonprofit Corporation. Current board members all have experience in international humanitarian volunteer work and were originally mentored within Alice’s outreach programs.
AWIN collaborates with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Global Member Interest Group and other nonprofit nutrition organizations to network and identify global humanitarian opportunities.
Fund and support nutrition training, monitoring, and research for improvement of education, professional skills, and collaboration in global humanitarian nutrition.
Support and mentor nutrition professionals, students, and related health professionals to provide nutrition and advisory services for humanitarian purposes.
Since 2023, grants have been awarded to a cohort of international humanitarian efforts in countries such as Cambodia, El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, and Ghana. Student international travel grants are aimed at providing hands-on cultural experience under the supervision of a global dietitian or nutritionist to instill future passion and networking.
Funds are carefully and ethically invested to provide a sustainable stream of revenue. Income from the endowment account is allotted each year. Funds from targeted donations are expended as stipulated. Each must meet the AWIN goals.
